Voelker Family Genealogy
In the spring of 1849 29 year old Martin Völker left his family in Sailauf Bavaria and made his way to Rotterdam, Netherlands where he boarded the ship General Harrison and sailed towards a new life in America. After arriving in New York City on June 30, Martin made his way to Cincinnati where he married another German immigrant named Bernadina Brockhuis and together they started a family in the German section of town that became known as Over the Rhine. More than 150 years and 7 generations later the family that Martin and Bernadina started continues to grow in the Cincinnati area and far beyond.
In 2005 Martin's great-great-great grandson David Voelker began a research effort into the family history as well as those families that branch out from it that now extends to over 2,600 people. All of my research data for deceased individuals is generally available for public viewing though information on living individuals will be limited to those within the family. I have also posted a number of high-resolution scans of some important historical documents in our family's history. This data includes information on many people that are not my direct ancestors but all are related in some way, many through marriage.
Additionally, a narrative history of Georg Adam Völker and all his descendants through current is being compiled. This narrative history will ultimately contain all known facts in story form for all descendants of Georg and Gertraud Völker. This is very much a work in progress, I am starting with the oldest generations and working my way to the present time. While this narrative does not contain data for all persons in the tree it puts the facts of my direct lineage together in a readable fashion that helps to tell the story of our family.
